Quick Links: History | Purpose | Timeline of Events | Complete Pictorial History HISTORY: The Great Canada Trip Of 1999 started out as a crazy idea for something to do over Matt's spring break time (which was March 16-28, 1999). However, Brian and Oskar could not commit to any time during Matt's spring break, so the "trip" was planned out for the weekend of April 16-18, 1999 (a month later). All was looking great until Friday, April 16. Matt woke up to see snow on the ground (which was a bad thing). Nevertheless, the day went on and Matt prepared for Canada. It wasn't until after he returned from work that he found out Brian and Oskar were not to come. An alternate set of dates (May 7-9, 1999) had been set up previous to the vicious morning of the 16th. Upon further confirmation (a call from Matt to Brian), this date was set into stone as the actual trip date. Almost another month went by before the May trip date arrived. Fortunately, May 7 was a decent day in Morris, Minnesota (although a bit overcast and windy), and the trip took place. Brian and Oskar arrived at my room at the University of Minnesota, Morris, where we spent the evening discussing what would occur over the next day or so. PURPOSE: The entire purpose of The Great Canada Trip Of 1999 was not as, unfortunately, many "under 21" trips to Canada tend to be (i.e. only going to drink). It was, instead, all about just going to another country (one which is so close, yet few visit)...just to go. Take pictures, mingle with the locals, and get the real Canadian experience (if such a thing exists).
